When did you know it was time to get divorced?

On Behalf of | Sep 17, 2020 | Divorce |

Those who are considering divorce often have one simple question: How do you know when it’s time to end the marriage? They’re curious about it, they feel like it may be the right decision, but they’re not sure exactly when to take that step. How can they know for sure that it’s time to get a divorce?

The answer, of course, is different for everyone. All marriages have their own unique characteristics, and that carries over into divorce. The moment that someone else knew their marriage was over may not be the same moment that you need to wait for in your own relationship.

Often, the moment itself underscores something that is fundamentally wrong with the marriage. For example, one woman said that she got a dream job offer. Instead of being happy for her, her husband was angry. He did not want to move, even though it was her dream job.

This same exact scenario may not play out in your marriage, but what it really shows is that the husband was more focused on himself than he was supportive of his wife. He did not respect what she wanted and valued in life. That’s a deeper issue that could also impact your marriage, even though the very moment that it becomes clear to you may be a bit different.

If you do decide to get divorced, be sure you understand the potentially complex legal process. It could include things like dividing your assets, considering how much time you will get with the children, and much more. It’s crucial to take the right steps and consider every factor carefully.
